About

Meet Kari Johansen

I didn't find this work in a textbook. I needed it to survive.

Growing up, I was the kid who never quite felt right. Overweight, chronic symptoms, repeatedly sick, anxious and depressed, with no clear explanation. Adding to this, I had sensitivities that made everything harder. I felt other people’s pain, the energy in a room, the weight of things nobody else seemed to notice. I absorbed it all without knowing how to process any of it, and my body, mind and emotions kept the score in ways that took years to understand.

By the time I was a young adult, I had added more to that weight. Trauma. Assault. Experiences that left marks no doctor had a name for and no prescription could remedy.

For years I tried. Mainstream medicine disappointed me repeatedly, and at times made things worse, including one experience that landed me in hospital. I followed the advice. I did what I was told. I cycled through therapies of various kinds, each offering some relief before the familiar loop returned me to the same place: helpless, defeated, and no closer to understanding what was actually wrong. I was not someone who gave up easily. But I was running out of options and beginning to wonder (not accept but wonder) if these were simply the cards I was dealt and maybe it was time to fold.

In 1999, back when natural healing was still firmly in the “way out there” category, someone I trusted mentioned a practitioner who had helped someone they knew. I was desperate enough to take the leap. What I found changed everything. Not just my health, but how I moved through the world and how much of life I could actually live and enjoy living. That practitioner became the spark that lit the path I still walk today.

Where the work began

The path that built the practice

Inspired by that first experience of real healing, I went back to school. I immersed myself in the study of natural health — herbalism, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, alternative physical diagnosis, and the energetic foundations that connect them all. I was learning the science of healing the body and practical alternative methods, while still sensing strongly there was an even deeper level where real and lasting change happened. A level the curriculum didn’t acknowledge.

I was intuitively guided to the Shamanic Path. Not as a detour from the natural healing arts, but as a foundational aspect of it. An ancient tradition that had been quietly holding people through transformation for tens of thousands of years, long before modern medicine drew its first boundary between body and spirit.

That path led me to Jaki Daniels — healer, teacher, and mentor — who has been instrumental in every aspect of what I do and who I am. My personal healing. My ability to hold space for clients. The development of the methodology I now bring to every program. I owe her more than words can hold, and I continue to work with her to this day. Because on a genuine path of healing and growth, we are never done. At a certain point it simply becomes about supporting the journey, with someone who has walked further walking alongside you

While many teachers, healers, and guides have contributed to what I offer, like threads in a tapestry, all part of a larger lineage — Jaki is the colour in the weaving. She is the one who took me deepest, who brightened the path, who helped me become the image in the tapestry.

Not despite it — because of it

What the hard chapters gave me

The years that followed were not easy ones. I navigated profound upheaval. Loss, financial hardship, assault, an abusive relationship, years of raising my children alone without family support. The particular exhaustion of rebuilding yourself while still showing up fully for everyone who needs you.

I am a driven and high-functioning person; capable, “successful” and I get things done, without a doubt, because of those chapters, not despite them. They required me to never give up, use everything I learned, go back to the work again and again, and find out whether it could hold under real pressure. It did. And what came out the other side was not just a healed version of the person who went in, but a practitioner who genuinely knows the terrain she is asking her clients to walk.

I rebuilt my life from the inside out, on the same healing path I now guide others on every day. The same deeply individual care that made the difference for me.

About EarthSound Wellness

EarthSound Wellness (ESW) was born from an unwavering belief: that true healing is always possible, and that the path of it goes deeper than most people have ever been taken.

ESW is rooted in the Shamanic traditions and energetic principles that have sustained healing across cultures for millennia. It is grounded in the quantum sciences that confirm what those traditions have always honored. And it is expressed through a genuinely integrative approach that addresses every dimension of the whole person — mental, physical, emotional, energetic, spiritual, and relational.

In the beginning, BioEnergetic Tuning was the flagship energy healing modality offered by ESW. It was developed in 2004 and provided in conjunction with intuitive coaching. We have grown into a practice built around deep, lasting transformation. Not symptom management, not partial results, not just relief — but the kind of resolution that positively changes how a person is able to live their life, now and into the future.

The principles that guide everything here are integrity, truth, humility, honor, dignity, and grace. Not as aspirational values on a wall, but as the actual operating code of every session, every relationship, and every recommendation made.

An Interview with Kari:

The practice

Decades in (and counting), I am still here. Still walking the path, still learning.

Still sitting with Jaki when I need to go deeper, still finding that this work surprises me with what it can do and where it can take me. I take on a small number of clients at a time. Not because of logistical capacity limits, but because this work asks for all of me, fully present. And that is what every person who comes to me deserves.

If something in my story has resonated...

If you recognize yourself in the driven, self-aware person who has tried most things and still finds that something deeper hasn’t resolved — you’re exactly who this work is for.
